Classifications

Volvo Penta engines, propulsion systems and gensets are all fully classable. The company helps customers throughout the process and works with all the major societies.

Volvo Penta’s classified engines and gensets:
  • Manufactured and tested in accordance with Classification Society Rules and Regulations.
  • Surveys conducted according to Rules, or according to special agreements.
  • Product Certificate issued in accordance with Classification Society Rules and Regulations.
  • Final survey onboard before accepted (load test, functional tests etc)
Type approved engines
The engine design is in conformance with specifications used in the Type Approval assessment, i.e in accordance with drawings, specifications and data used for obtaining Design Approval, and in conformance with configuration of the representative sample used in Type Tests.

To classify a type approved engine the engine must be classifiable and the requirement of continuous power must be fulfilled.
